Smile.ly

Feb 23

I just found this site Smile.ly and wondered if any of you have heard of it or used it. It says that it sends you new products to try out then give your opinions about them. Seems alright but I was just wondering if anyone else has heard of it or tried it.

Random thoughts of a 5 year old

Nov 4

I haven’t written here in a while, but today Caleb ask some questions that I thought were worth posting.

As were eating breakfast…
Caleb - “I wonder what Obama is doing right now”
Me - “What?”
Caleb - “After breakfast lets turn on Action News 8 so we can see what Obama is doing right now, we haven’t watched that in a long time.”

I’m not sure if this was a ploy so that he could watch TV on a school day and thought it sounded better then saying he wanted to watch Imagination Movers. Or maybe he is really interested in what the President is doing, but then we started talking about something else…I think more about a nyalas (which are related to antelopes, in case you didn’t know). We have some interesting conversations around the table these days.

Later the kids were playing and I guess Caleb was also thinking about random things when he asked me “Have you ever trapped a mouse in a pumpkin?” I said “No, have you?” He hasn’t either. I asked why he wanted to know and he said he was just wondering about it.

So there you have it, my kid thinks about what the president is doing and if any mice are trapped in pumpkins. That is what your kids are thinking about too right?

Teaching him young

Mar 13

I was cleaning while Tyler was taking a nap. Caleb asked if he could help. I said sure and told him to look around for something dirty then get a Lysol wipe and clean it. He stood in the kitchen and looked around.

“I only see one thing that’s dirty. The dishes.” Then he looked at me and started laughing.
“HA! HA! HA! That was just a joke because only Daddy’s wash dishes. We can’t wash them! HA! HA!”

I’m so glad that I was able to teach Caleb such an important lesson at such a young age.

sick

Feb 27

For anyone who has been around us in the past 2 weeks or so, sorry. Both kids have been contagious with something and we didn’t even know it.

Caleb just broke out in the 5th’s disease rash, that has been going around his school. This is the dumbest disease ever, probably for the past 2 weeks Caleb has been contagious, but we didn’t know it since you don’t know you have the disease until you get the rash which means you are no longer contagious. It has been making its rounds at his play-school, but now since he just had his birthday party everyone there was exposed as well.

I took Tyler to the Dr last week for a weird rash on his forehead. Turns out it was just eczema. There was one little spot that looked a little different but the Dr thought it was all eczema. This week I took him back into the Dr because that little spot got bigger and uglier. That spot is Impetigo, which is made worse by the eczema cream. Awesome. So we stopped putting one cream on his face and got a prescription for another one. Impetigo is also contagious, so the kids at the party were also exposed to that.

So basically this is just a big apology letter to any and everyone who has been around my kids lately. If you get 5th’s or impetigo I’m very sorry, but just know at the time I thought Tyler had eczema and Caleb had allergies (which turns out was just phase 1 of 5th’s).

Free Shipping

Dec 12

We do a lot more of our shopping online now. Its just easier to shop at 10pm when both kids are in bed rather then take both of them out to the store and try to remember what I have to get. Online I can take my time, do a little research to see if I’m getting the best price for things. When price researching you always have to add in shipping…except on December 18th - Free Shipping Day. They even made a whole website out of it just so you know where you can get free shipping. Also ever place that is offering free shipping on that day also guarantees that it will get to you by Christmas. So for people that plan to still shop online you should check out this site and plan to shop Dec 18th.

Scams

Nov 16

I am sick of these stupid scam emails I keep getting. Recently I have listed 2 things on Craigslist, our old dining room chandelier and Otis. I have gotten scam emails for both of them. They seem so fairly obvious to me, but apparently there must be people that fall for these scams or they wouldn’t be sending out these emails.

I got one for the chandelier the day after I listed it. First I just got an email asking if it was still available and the condition of it. So I replied with the info. Later that day I checked my email on my phone and the guy had already replied, so I went to look at the email, but I couldn’t on my phone since all there was was an attachment. I thought that was really weird, but didn’t think much of it. When I got home and on the computer I checked the message and on there it looked normal, not like an attachment. Anyway, I got this nice long email about how he really wanted it but was on his honeymoon in Hawaii and could he have his secretary mail me a check then his moving company come pick it up, never actually mentioning the light, it was always referred to as ‘the item’. Anyway I googled his email address and found many complaints about him and his scam, never emailed him back and haven’t heard from him again. It took me a while to figure out the scam, basically the ’secretary’ screws up and sends a check for the wrong amount, usually doubles the amount, then just asks you to cash the check and send back a money order for the extra amount…his check ends up being bad…and you get the idea.

I have also gotten scam emails from people about Otis. One I’m not sure if it is a scam, a lie, or just crazy. Emailed a guy a few times, he came out met Otis, we set up a day for the rest of his family to come meet him and then the plan was for them to take him that day, the morning of the meeting day I get and email from him saying a stray wandered into their house the night before and they are just going to keep him instead. What the? I thought this guy was really going to take him so I took the listing down…and then had to re-list Otis. Today I got 2 very similar emails about Otis and the email came within 10 minutes of each other. I’m not even going to email them back since neither of them mention Otis or even a dog and both keep talking about how they and their son or daughter love pet, want pet, have passion for pet, etc. I’m not sure what their scam is but I don’t think I want to know who is out there and what they are doing to try to scam people for their pets. That is just wrong.

One more reason to vote

Oct 29

Voting is important so you can feel like you helped pick the president…change laws and things like that. But today I found out another good reason to get out there and vote. Free doughnuts. That’s right, take your “I voted” sticker with you to Krispy Kreme and you will get a free doughnut. If that isn’t reason enough to get out and vote I don’t know what is.

UPDATE:Starbucks is also giving away free coffee to voters. They even put out a nice little video about it that you can see here. So now you really don’t have an excuse not to vote. I found free doughnuts and coffee for you, so get out and vote.

UPDATE 2:And Ben and Jerry’s is giving away free ice cream. So you need to plan your voting route now and make sure you pass a Krispy Kreme, Starbucks and Ben and Jerry’s on your way home after voting.

Why did God make…..?

Sep 29

Every night before Caleb goes to bed the last thing he says is…
“Wait. Wait. Wait. Ummm, why did God make….” then here he could say anything. I usually try to answer him but sometimes I don’t know the answer and sometimes I make my best guess.

“Why did God make bushes and not just trees?”
“Because rabbits and other animals live in bushes and they can’t climb trees to make their houses”

“Why did God make doors?”
“So that we can close them so that your room will be quiet so you can sleep.”

“Why did God make pirates?”
“To make sure not just one person has all the gold.”

“Why did God make babies cry?”
“Because if they whispered we wouldn’t be able to hear them.”

“Why did God make allergies?”
“So that not everyone would have cats or dogs or rabbits in their house.”

“Why did God make shadows?”
“So we know where the lights aren’t shining.”

“Why did God make chickens like birds and the chicken that you eat?”
“Umm, I don’t know…its weird they have the same name huh?”

My favorite one so far…
“Why did God make stores and not just Costco?”
We just laughed and said that is a good question, we don’t know why that is either.

3-2-1

Sep 24

Today Tyler is 3 months old. He has obviously grown and changed a lot in these 3 months. Tyler is a people person and loves to smile at people. He has laughed a few times, but always stopped as soon as we turn the video camera on. He is reaching for things and is grabbing things now, hair seems to be a favorite thing to grab onto. Lately he has been working hard to get his thumb in his mouth and keep it there, this is a harder task then it sounds. Tyler is still a good eater and today weighed in at 15lbs. One more pound and he will double his birth weight. He is attempting to roll from his back to his stomach, but hasn’t even tried to roll from stomach to back…which is what the baby books and experts say he should do first. So maybe we have a rebel on our hands.

As of tomorrow, Otis has been with us 2 years. He still will not allow anyone else to cut his hair, or even give him a bath. So while I would be happy to leave him somewhere and pay for someone to cut his hair and bathe him, he won’t allow it. So instead he gets hosed off outside by Caleb and then the 2 of us soap him up and Caleb gets to spray him again. Then he has to deal with me and a pair of scissors trying to cut his hair. His last haircut started when Tyler fell asleep and ended when he woke up. So he doesn’t have the cutest hair cut in the world but hair isn’t covering his eyes anymore and it is basically short it most places.

This month marks 1 year that we have been in this house. We have made some changes to the house in the last year. Many of the walls have been painted, the fireplace has been re-done and we have a new fence in the back yard. There are some things that we said we would change right away, that are still the same today. The “crystal” chandelier has yet to be replaced with something that we actually like, along with the kitchen and bathroom lights that match it. The plan was to expand the closet under the stairs, and filled with more stuff, that is still in the plans. Although I don’t know exactly what would go in there, we seem to have no problem filling up space with stuff. It was amazing when we moved in to this house from our mobile home we thought we had so much more space to put stuff plus a garage, but somehow we managed to fill this place up without any problems.
