Sharing
Thursday, January 26th, 2006Sharing is a learned activity. Caleb has had his ups and downs with sharing. At the playgroup we now attend sometimes Caleb has a hard time sharing toys with the other kids. But it is a room full of 2 year olds so he isn’t the only one learning this new skill. It is interesting to watch the kids though. The kids who have other siblings will almost surround the toy that they are playing with in order to protect it from being taken. They know what it is like to have other kids around wanting what you want. Caleb, and a few other kids, don’t understand that someone else could want to play with the toy that you are playing with and sit in a way that is that is very open to other kids being able to come and take their toy. So when the other kid comes that is when us moms have to start (once again) on the sharing lecture. There is always at least one mom giving the sharing speech thoughout the hour long playgroup. So hopefully in a few weeks time these kids will all learn to share.
Today Caleb showed that he has learned to share. Unfortunately I didn’t want him to share. There is a cat that seems to have uncanny sense of when we are planning to have lunch outside. I gave Caleb his food and then went back inside to get mine. When I came back out Caleb was sharing his lunch with the cat. Even trying to feed the cat with his fork. Turns out cats don’t like apples or mac & cheese. This didn’t stop Caleb though. He kept trying to share his food with that cat. He even tried to give him a drink from his sippy cup. The cat is polite though, he will sniff the food everytime which makes Caleb think that he wants to eat some.
So now we have to move on to the lesson of when to share and when not to share. Share your toys with your friends but don’t share your lunch with a cat.
