Scams

I am sick of these stupid scam emails I keep getting. Recently I have listed 2 things on Craigslist, our old dining room chandelier and Otis. I have gotten scam emails for both of them. They seem so fairly obvious to me, but apparently there must be people that fall for these scams or they wouldn’t be sending out these emails.

I got one for the chandelier the day after I listed it. First I just got an email asking if it was still available and the condition of it. So I replied with the info. Later that day I checked my email on my phone and the guy had already replied, so I went to look at the email, but I couldn’t on my phone since all there was was an attachment. I thought that was really weird, but didn’t think much of it. When I got home and on the computer I checked the message and on there it looked normal, not like an attachment. Anyway, I got this nice long email about how he really wanted it but was on his honeymoon in Hawaii and could he have his secretary mail me a check then his moving company come pick it up, never actually mentioning the light, it was always referred to as ‘the item’. Anyway I googled his email address and found many complaints about him and his scam, never emailed him back and haven’t heard from him again. It took me a while to figure out the scam, basically the ’secretary’ screws up and sends a check for the wrong amount, usually doubles the amount, then just asks you to cash the check and send back a money order for the extra amount…his check ends up being bad…and you get the idea.

I have also gotten scam emails from people about Otis. One I’m not sure if it is a scam, a lie, or just crazy. Emailed a guy a few times, he came out met Otis, we set up a day for the rest of his family to come meet him and then the plan was for them to take him that day, the morning of the meeting day I get and email from him saying a stray wandered into their house the night before and they are just going to keep him instead. What the? I thought this guy was really going to take him so I took the listing down…and then had to re-list Otis. Today I got 2 very similar emails about Otis and the email came within 10 minutes of each other. I’m not even going to email them back since neither of them mention Otis or even a dog and both keep talking about how they and their son or daughter love pet, want pet, have passion for pet, etc. I’m not sure what their scam is but I don’t think I want to know who is out there and what they are doing to try to scam people for their pets. That is just wrong.
